A debate has surfaced in the women’s wrestling community: should female wrestlers be wrestling freestyle or folkstyle at the High School level? It seems that girls are wrestling folkstyle simply out of convenience for boys and coaches alike. 

Wrestling began as a man’s sport. Women had to start their wrestling careers alongside the men until they became recognized. And eventually, they did. The United States now has folkstyle and freestyle divisions for women. Although the sport is still not sanctioned in some states, there is a national tournament for both styles. It seems like Greco may now be on the way as well.
